A lot of the times we see a white washed world, with one group leading, one group prospering, and one group changing the dynamics of history because it benefits them. On the other hand, from their side, you see this same group maintaining power, helping those like them, and allowing history to repeat their story, which shines of victory.
Depending on the perspective you have, which group you fall into, or relate to, you will see a potentially very different story, but the truth lies in the middle of these two. As a biracial host, I find myself viewing the betrayal of either side more frequently than not; clinging to labels to find a group to fit into, or even trying to portray myself as one more than another based on scenarios.
The thing is that this world has convoluted the truth based on who is telling the story because it is our perspective, and in turn, our reality. Yesterday, I saw this post, and someone said “fake🤢”. This is the reaction of many based on the one-sidedness of the stories we hear. People of melanin are portrayed as the bad, aggresive, and lowest people, even around the world, and this needs to change.

The truth that is based on the Bible, and other sources , is that being of melanin is filled with a rich heritage! It is encompassed with architects, accountants, civilizations, and more! The same things that are shed off by American History because it only begins with blacks as slaves, is the very key that can unlock self love (philautia).
Black Americans are still in a realm of question for value, standards, and placement within this world. The subculture that has been developed, for the majority represented is the very group marketing uses. The negative stereotypes leads to the proven financial, marital, family, and career/legal career stability. As sad as my heart gets discussing this and knowing the truth of what marketing represents, I want to share ways to break this cycle and thought:
- Take a DNA test and gain insight based on mom (mitochondrial), dad (paternal) or both, but make sure they have more than just slave ports as origins (I did Family Tree DNA)
- Look at Slave Voyages, to work backwards or forwards in finding out where you have derived from based on the slave trade routes
- Know the Bible is based in Egypt, Africa, Ethiopia, Israel, modern day Iraq and such
- Remember back when life started the areas were Pangea, not continents
- If you find locations that you believe pertain to you, research it more to gain a sense of heritage
- Look up famous black inventors, patent holders, and what their inventions did for society
As a Black American, African American, or whatever, you are not lost, but you need to be found, and that finding is within you. Be brave against society because you don’t have to follow any of it. You can live as just you. Yes, leaving known comforts is hard, but if you want to elevate, you have to sacrifice the past to build a future.
